Pull all three credit reports and read them line by line
List every monthly debt payment shown on your credit report
Decide the monthly payment you would still feel calm about in year three
Identify the accounts you will use for the down payment

Gather documents

Two years of W2s or tax returns
Thirty days of pay stubs
Two months of statements for every account you will use
